Traumatic Rupture of the Gall Bladder

Abstract

|
Although intra-adominal injuries following nonpenetrating traumas of the anterior abdominal wall are being encountered with increasing frequency, a traumatic rupture of the gall bladder is still considered to be a rare condition.
Moreover, rupture of a normal gall bladder without rupture of the liver must be even more unusual.
The physiologic distention of the gall bladder following a meal has been suggested as a possible predisposing cause.
A traumatic rupture of the gall bladder, unless treated surgically, is uniformly fatal,
We wish to report a case of traumatic rupture of the gall bladder without injury to the liver due to blunt fist blowing of the abdomen in a 43-year old man, in which the patient made a complete recovery following a surgical removal of the injured gall bladder.
A review of the literature about traumatic repture of the gall bladder is made.
